After the disruption of 2020 I’m sure that we are all looking forward to some normality and of course seeing cricket back on the Green in the Summer of 2021.
For players young and old, both current members and those looking to start, and of course the wider community, nothing brings more pleasure than the quintessentially Kentish sight of cricket being played on our beautiful village green… and the good news is that, based on current government guidelines (subject to change) we can begin our outdoor season as planned from 29th March.
As with many sports clubs, Bearsted CC has faced some ups and downs financially and in terms of numbers during the last 12 months, but we are excited to say we are still here and will once again be able to offer a wide range of opportunities to play cricket this summer. We hope to see many faces, both old and new, taking part as we put our shared troubles behind us and look forward, once again enjoying the simple pleasure of spending time with friends and playing sport.
On the senior side in 2021, the club will again be running at least two league teams on a Saturday (Kent County Village League) and one league team on a Sunday (Kent Village League). Additionally, we are also entered into the National Village Cup, to defend our Kent regional trophy, and the Kent T20 league (midweek). To offer as many chances to play as possible, we will also play a number of friendly matches and, numbers willing, would hope to start a regular third team on a Saturday and a second team on a Sunday. More information on how to sign up and join in with senior training is available on the website (click here).
For younger cricketers Bearsted CC has a flourishing junior section, with Under 9, Under 11, Under 13 and Under 17 age groups taking part in weekly training sessions and playing regular matches, all overseen by fully qualified ECB coaches. More information on junior age groups and coaching, including how to sign up and register for the sessions, can be found in the separate article on the website (click here).
Off the pitch Bearsted CC is a friendly and sociable club, holding regular events for all the family, both in the heart of the village, on the Green, and at our private second ground in Hollingbourne.
New members and supporters are always more than welcome… to sign up and keep up to date with the latest news and register for training sessions and team selection you can sign up as a player, parent or supporter via the JOIN button on the website.
Alternatively, if you would like more information about the club or to enquire about any other ways that you can volunteer or support your village cricket club, please email chairman@bearstedcricketclub.co.uk.
On behalf of the committee and all the members at Bearsted CC we look forward to seeing you all very soon…
David
