R.I.P. Rod Maloney

David Patton15 Aug - 14:19

The club was saddened to learn of the passing of Vice President, former Chairman and Sunday XI Captain Rod Maloney.

Rod played for the club from 1993 to 2011. He moved into a house overlooking the Green between the working men’s club and the parade of shops including Crouchers butchers.

He scored 7,318 runs, took 211 catches and executed 105 stumpings. He earned the nickname “Dusty Binlids” for his habit of dropping the ball when it didn’t matter!! His highest score was 113 scored against Sheldwich in 1999, a season in which he scored 916 runs.

He was Sunday Captain from 1997-99 and again in 2002, was Chairman from 2001-2005 during which time the club won both the 1st and 2nd XI leagues and was Clubman of the Year in 1996 and 1997.

He won 2nd XI Player of the year in 1994 and 2nd XI Players Player in 2006.

A real club man, Rod moved away from the village some years ago, residing for some time in Rochester and, more recently, he moved to Oxfordshire.

Our thoughts are with Rod's family at this time.

RIP Rod...
