Bearsted U11's secure a cup win against Cranbrook

On a glorious sunny day at the Sutton Valance school grounds Bearsted U11's emerged as cup winners against Cranbrook.

Captained by Lucas Brookman they lost the toss and Cranbrook decided to bat first. The first Cranbrook pair soon found scoring difficult in the face of some tight early Bearsted bowling adding only 10 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Their second pair struggled further adding only another 4 runs whilst losing 2 wickets. At the halfway stage Cranbrook found themselves 214-6. However the tide began to turn with their third pair hitting 41 and their final pair 19 to drag their total to a more respectable 276-8. Bearsted left the field knowing they had let Cranbrook off the hook with a score 25-30 more runs they should have with their fielding lacking the usual energy and zest. Stand out bowling was by Ollie French 3-7, Euan 2-5, Drew 2-11 and Lucas 1-13.

Bearsted came out to bat knowing they needed an aggressive start and Euan (16) and Lucas (28) did just that adding 44 runs from the first 4 overs, with Lucas hitting three 6's and Euan three 4's as they hit the Cranbrook bowlers to every corner of the field. Unfortunately the second pair did not have it so easy and at the half way stage Bearsted were 236-3, still requiring 40 to win.

Third pair of Drew and Tom steadied the nerves with Drew (26) in particular hitting out to get Bearsted within reach of the Cranbrook total. The final pair of Leo (5) and Joe (15) came out needing just 10 runs to win but knew they couldn't afford to lose any wickets. Despite the loss of one wicket a mix of stout defending and positive running saw them through to secure a 10 run victory finishing on 286-5.

Winning the cup was a fantastic way to finish the season and was a real squad effort with contributions from all the players, and was reward for their hard work and commitment throughout the summer. Well done boys!!
